Exclusive: Pepper Sprayed Davis Undergrad Speaks Out, Says Chancellor Ignored Her, Hasn’t Reached Out At All

The Second Alarm is reporting live (on Twitter at @lhfang) from the scene at UC Davis, as around 1,000 students have massed around a building at the center of campus, and the UC Davis chancellor and police have refused to leave until the students disperse. The students are adamantly nonviolent, and have formed a large path for the Chancellor to leave. The crowd chants “just walk home” — while it appears Davis administration officials are trying to spin this as some sort of ‘hostage situation.’

We spoke to several students at the event, but I’m more interested in posting video right now of a student here who was among the victims of the police pepper spray attack yesterday. Shanon, a UC Davis undergrad, said she was linking arms with her fellow protesters, and the UC Davis police pepper sprayed directly into her face and body. The chemicals get into her eyes and deep into her lungs, and she still has difficulty breathing.

But perhaps damning for UC Chancellor Linda Katehi is the revelation that no one at the UC Davis administration has reached out to Shanon to apologize for the pain inflicted by the police, to make sure she is okay, or to at least to hear her perspective. View Shanon’s interview with The Second Alarm below:

SHANON: The administration didn’t contact me at all. The only people I saw were my friends and the people who, the EMTs and the people who helped me out. […]

  9. Let’s hope these fucking PIGS get lots of time and are befriended by very large, hairy and horny men. These events will destroy any positive relationship the American public has ever had with law enforcement. WHAT A FASCIST COUNTRY THIS HAS BECOME!

What was the name of this student? It sounds like “Shannon Giamichael”, but she does not turn up in Google.

  11. LT.John Pike is a person of interest, also!
“Big Red” is throughly enjoying tormenting the row of sitting defenseless
people, who are lining the concrete sidewalk just like a row of “Vicious Attacking Violent Violets hellbent on destroying all who oppose their World Domination terrible War Plans”. I know this, as sure as Sin! The are anarchists! But the “Piker” is sadistic!
