Investigation Of The Drive To Privatize K-12 Schools, Interview With Thom Hartmann Program

News Corp. CEO Rupert Murdoch addresses a gathering of state-level politicians at an education privatization conference in San Francisco.

Last week, The Nation published my investigation of the drive to privatize K-12 education in America. If you haven’t seen it yet, it can be found here or in the print edition of the magazine in early December.

My piece focuses on the political strategy — front groups, lobbyist bill writing, bare knuckle tactics to crush the unions, attack ads, and charities used to shift public opinion — and how a group of Wall Street investors and education technology firms have cracked the code, making 2011 the year of education privatization. I’ll be making the rounds next week to discuss my story. Sam Sacks, filling in for Thom Hartmann, interviewed me on it on Thursday. Watch below:

The investigation was sponsored by the Nation Investigative Fund.
